learn to scramble
Our learn to scramble courses take place in Cumbria, UK.
The course lasts two days and is suitable for anyone reasonably fit with a love of the outdoors and a moderate head for heights.
No previous scrambling experience is necessary, but you will get more out of the course if you have done a fair amount of summer walking and are confident walking around the fells.
The course aims to teach you how to assess the level of difficulty of a scramble, to be able to pick and follow the route from the description in the guide book, to scramble confidently and to know when and how to use a rope to protect yourself and others on a scramble up to grade 3.
The main skills taught include using a rope and the rock to direct belay, body belays, basic gear placements and choice of anchors and belay stances. All techniques that are also useful in Alpine climbing.

Course programme
Throughout the learn to scramble course the instructor works with no more than three clients.
On Day 1 we guide you up a classic Lakeland scramble like Pinnacle Ridge on St Sunday Crag, Easy Terrace on Dow Crag, Cam Crag Ridge in Langstrath, or Pillar Rock in Ennerdale.
During the course of the day, we discuss how we are using the rope to protect you, the choices we are making about routes and suitable anchors and how we use guidebooks.
This is all done on a grade 3 scramble requiring the use of a rope.
On Day 2 we swap roles and ask you to guide us up a grade 2 or 3 scramble making your own choices about route and anchors.
Again the scramble requires the use of a rope.
Essential information
Climb 365 provides you with all necessary safety equipment.
You need to wear suitable clothing including good walking boots.
You do not need to be super fit or athletic but you should have a moderate level of fitness.
